Ella Quin Alford Mixon & William Elwood Mixon
The story continues with little Ella Quin failing to thrive without her mother. No form of milk substitute was working so a young black woman named Minnie Lee was brought into the home to nurse both Ella and her own baby Lula Mae. They retained Minnie all her life and Ella Quin kept in touch with Lula Mae all her life!
The lady to the right is Jake Alford's mother who came back to McComb to help with the baby. She is Julia Catching Steele Alford. She slept with little Ella Quin on a trundle bed beside her bed and the baby held two of her fingers as she fell asleep. I do remember visiting her grave one day with my Grandmother, Ella Quin and she had tears in her eyes remembering Julia's kindness.
The wonderful report below talks about Jake Alford, Ella Quin's father finally remarrying four years later to Bertha Eqloff from New Orleans who wandered into his pharmacy for a chocolate shake! Ella Quin called her "Mama Bertha"
Jake and Bertha had four boys! Read the below story below that speaks of life after the passing of Ella Rebecca, Ella Quin's mother.
