Ella Rebecca Quin Alford & Jacob Elias Alford
Picture
A local Newspaper written in 1906 describes the Quin daughters:  Ella and Mary from babyhood were greatly admired for grace of character, vivacious beauty and sparkling intellect.  They are the pride of their fond parents' hearts.

So amazing to have pictures of these precious relatives!  Marian Houk had this photo (below) restored in 1980.

More Pictures of the beautiful Ella Rebecca. The wedding announcement. Jake managed the McComb City Drug store.  Her it is outside and inside.

The Wedding was on June 7th 1905.  The ceremony was at Ella's house and she walked the aisle on the arm of her father, Dr. Oliver Benton Quin.  Her twin, Mary was maid of honor and Madge, her older sister, was Matron of Honor.

Here is where the story turns tragic.  One year after her marriage to Jake,  Ella Rebecca dies two months after giving birth to a daughter, my grandmother Ella Quin.  Ella Rebecca first named her Olive.  After her death to honor her mother, they changed the baby's name to Ella Quin Alford.

In her obituary below: "The death of such a person, so young, so beautiful in person, life and character, with such a happy and promising future, brings deep sorrow into the hearts of everyone."

Jake had just built a beautiful new house for his new family.  She only got to live there a few days.   The story continues with newborn Ella Quin struggling to live without her mother.  Turn the page to see how the bereaved widower, Jake copes with this terrible loss.

Below are pictures of Ella Rebecca's twin sister and a report about her life.  She never got over the loss of her dear sister.  There is a cute story below about her meeting me as a baby and wanting to see me every day that I was in McComb.  I still have an engraved silver cup given to me as a baby.

The below picture is of Ella Rebecca's older sister Margaret (Madge) on her wedding day.  Following this is her obituary that tells her amazing story of service to her community including serving as a Mississippi Legislature representative from 1932 to 1936.  What  a lady!
