Marian Alford Mixon Houk wrote and presented this amazing story to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the founding in McComb, Mississippi of the Judith Robinson Quin Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR)! Peter fought in the Revolutionary war and he and his wife and family were instrumental in settling and governing the town of Holmesville in Pike Co., MS. in 1812 The story tells of their 7 children and 65 Grandchildren (!) Who grew up to be Judges, Civic Leaders, Ministers, and Officers of the law. Please give this a read! It also can be printed out!
The above history of Peter Quin was dedicated to Ella Quin and all future generations by her daughter and my mother Marian Alford Mixon Houk! This comprehensive look at Peter Quin's life is fascinating!
Marian (Mixie) Houk and John Talbot Houk (Dock) traveled to visit the first homeland place of the Peter Quin's in America. This where Buffalo Creek meets the Broad river. This was before they moved to Pike County, Mississippi. Imagine starting over at 50 years of age and traveling with huge family by wagon to unsettled territory in Mississippi. Took 6 weeks! Yikes! Here is where they moved to (see map lower left), near the Bogue Chitto River! Our ancestors would have looked like the businessman on the right!
